Hello, I'm new here and I speak English. What I Need is a place that teaches German for non-Thais. The class is not for me but my Filipina wife. :) She seems to be good with languages so I want her to take some German classes. The only way she will learn is in a class structure and casual talking will not work with her. We do well living in Pattaya without Thai classes but German is much more important in getting a job in the future.
Thank you
lolo

If you are well living in Pattaya, there is a question, you can speak - very well English - in my opinion - you have a Philipine wife, who can speak - maybe - a little bit English - and Thai.

Why you live in Pattaya ?

Easy abc .. i think is a good School.
After 200 hours of private lessons (one teacher, one student) I can tell you it's not. In my opinion they try to keep the progress low and therefore the cashflow high. They do not even try to figure out weaknesses and work on them, instead they focus on waste time with unimportant stuff. In the end it's a private business gaining for the highest possible profit. And that's the interest of the teacher, who want's a constant monthly income, too. So I cannot recommend it.

[QUOTE = "anton1, post: 1314685, member: 821"] If you are in a hurry, Maybe - a little bit English - and Thai.

Very good question!!!!! I have been with my BOSS for 6+ years and her English is GOOD. Her Thai is poor but she picks it up easily. The problem with Thai language, it is only good in Thailand and not in the U.S.. On the other hand, German is a very Good language to know in the States. I worked in Pharmaceuticals for 25+ years and German was used all the time. Also, she has an interest in learning German and been wanting to take classes for the last 2 years.
We live here because of we both like Thailand much more than the PI. :) Thailand is safer, better medical, better food, shopping, night life, cleaner too. Do I have to say anymore?

In general I would say, Pattaya is rather not the best place to learn ANY foreign language.
Bangkok would offer a lot more options.
Also, it depends what your budget is and which level of proficiency your wife actually wants to achieve.
Everyone's learning pattern is different, and me myself I rather prefer group classes at a moderate pace (that is how I managed to learn Thai), but for people who are very focused, determined and have the necessary budget, private 1-1 classes definitely make sense. If you have suitable books and materials, you can create a "class structure" with systematical teaching even in a 1-to-1 learning environment.
I have been teaching German 1-to-1 to a Singaporean woman who was married to an Irish guy 8 or 9 years ago, they were about to move to Munich where the Irish guy was offered a great management position.
The lady (a smart one) managed to adopt the grammar quickly, but it took a longer time to work on the pronunciation. In the end, they were happy with what they got and the lady had a good base to start daily life in Germany and improve her skills there.
